Putin extended rare offer to let U.S. use Russian military bases, share Afghan intel

President Vladimir Putin offered his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden the use of Russian military bases in Central Asia for information gathering on the situation in Afghanistan.

According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, Putin made the offer during his June 16 Summit with Biden in Geneva. The Russian leader suggested that the two powers coordinate on Afghanistan and put Russia's bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to "practical use".

The newspaper noted that cooperation could involve the exchange of information obtained through the use of drones, but that the U.S. had not given any concrete response.
